Welcome to the very first newsletter from Solid Space! This October, we embraced the theme of courage— both in how we launched and in the stories shared throughout our events. The journey of creating Solid Space started with a conversation between our founders Emáni and Hikma, and it quickly blossomed into something bigger than we imagined. From finding the name to gathering a powerhouse team of women, it’s been an inspiring process. Here’s a look back at our first three events, which showcased our courage and creativity as we set the foundation for what’s to come.
The Warm Up: Celebrating Women in Creativity
Our opening event, The Warm Up, was a powerful moment for us as a team. We saw ourselves coming together not just as individuals, but as a community. It was an all-women DJ lineup featuring DJ Cool Chels, DJ Yemaya, and our very own GOGO. The energy was electric, and the support we felt from our community was humbling.
Conversations flowed, music filled the space, and we knew we were off to a great start. The night was a beautiful gathering, showered with wholesome displays of affection and filled with energy from all those who joined us. We couldn't have asked for a better way to kick things off!
Storyteller’s Sanctuary: Courage in Every Word
Our second event, Storyteller’s Sanctuary, was more than we could have imagined. The theme of courage echoed throughout the evening, with artists and open mic performers sharing powerful stories and music. Seven incredible artists—Cultafaith, Heldana, Chantelle, Leah Lakiah, Blu, Jill, and our host Eric—brought such vibrancy and depth to the night. The crowd was captivated, and the environment truly felt like a sanctuary for creative expression.
It was a night filled with wonder and meaningful connections. Heldana’s visual art left us in awe, and the courage displayed by all the performers was something we’ll carry forward. We’re excited to see how Storyteller’s Sanctuarywill grow with each month.
Afrobeats House: Breaking Boundaries in Afrobeats
We closed out the month with Afrobeats House, featuring the talented Kings Ether performing an eclectic live set of amapiano and Afrobeats music. Their performance was mesmerizing, and we’re already looking forward to having them back! This night was extra special because we also celebrated Emáni’s birthday, adding even more joy to the evening.
The atmosphere was filled with celebration, dance, and pure vibes—a perfect way to end our courageous month.
Looking Ahead: Building a Community Around Humanity
Our month of courage was a splendid start for Solid Space. We had a successful launch, and we’re excited to continue curating meaningful events at Gojo House every month. As we move into November, we’re shifting the focus to humanity—which is the theme. We can’t wait to share what’s in store. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of our journey so far. We’ll see you soon!
